This book discusses the divergences between the economy we see and what economists describe to us, and how the system is geared to render the average person an economic slave.  It highlights how economic theory fails in describing the economy, and how economics is not only inconsistent with what we experience, but at times even inconsistent with its own principles.  These failings and inconsistencies help to hide what is really going on.  Government is likened to cancer, and business to the locust, with both working in concert against the best interests of the public.  The consumer is effectively the whole economy rather than the 2/3 we are told, since the taxpaying consumer ultimately picks up the tab for everything.
